CameraBag Artist: France Freeman "With CameraBag, I feel like I have my creative toys back"

Name: France Freeman
Location: Seattle, WA
Equipment: iPhone 3G
Favorite CameraBag Filters:  Helga, Lolo and Magazine. (I often apply multiple filters for different, or more intense, effects.)
Snapping iPhone Photos Since: November 2008

On using CameraBag:
Starting out as a film shooter I always loved experimenting with alternative processes and cameras - Holgas, Polaroids, High Contrast B&W, Sepia, Cross Processing etc. It was something I really missed when I switched over to digital. But with CameraBag, I feel like I have my creative toys back. The filters really capture the retro-classic look of those old film processes, and because the CameraBag filters are not overly intense, I find I can apply multiple filters to a single image and achieve a truly unique look.

France's favorite subjects:
I  find myself especially drawn to the retro and nostalgic, antiques, old signs and things seemingly out of place or out of time. I love the surreal and the dreamy, the light and the darkness. I love the beauty in the everyday, all around us, and where we least expect to find it.

On how the iPhone impacts her professional work:
I  work full time as the in-house studio photographer for a large corporation. I also do a bit of freelance work and travel photography using the Canon 5D and all the equipment that goes along with that. And while I love all that gear, and it certainly has it's place and purpose, there is something truly liberating about shooting with just the iPhone. No load to carry, with me all the time. It's both the antithesis and complement to my studio work. Because I'm not thinking about all the lenses, gear and lighting, and my images don't have to fit any pre planned format, I can be completely spontaneous and creative. And I've found that shooting that way regularly has reignited my passion for photography, strengthened my ability to see,  and made me far more creative in the studio.
